Michiel VAN RATINGEN
Michiel van Ratingen, PhD, PDEng, Msc (1966) is Secretary General of the European New Car Assessment Programme, Euro NCAP.
He joined the organisation in 2007 and has been responsible for the consumer rating programme latest developments, notably the introduction of crash avoidance technology testing. Michiel studied at the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands and completed his PhD at Eindhoven and the Medical University of Maastricht. He joined the Crash Safety Research and Development unit at TNO Automotive in the Netherlands in 1995 and First Technology Safety Systems (now Humanetics Innovative Solutions) in the US as Technical Director in 2005. He is trustee of Towards Zero Foundation, provides technical support to the Latin NCAP programme and is Council member of the International Research Council on Biomechanics of Injury (IRCOBI). Michiel is the recipient of the TNO Crash Safety Award and the 2016 Bertil Aldman Award. In 2017 he received the U.S. Government Special Award of Appreciation.
In 2018, he was awarded with the ASC Pathfinder Award, the highest award given by the Automotive Safety Council, the US automotive safety supplier trade association. Michiel has been on the Auto Body Professionals (ABP) Power List of most influential persons in industry in 2013 and 2018.
