Stefano Merli is an experienced senior manager with over twenty five years’ technical leadership in the Telecom Sector.
Since 2016, as the CTO of the Altran Next Core “5G & Advanced Network”, he has been leading the consolidation and evolution of the Offer and Value Proposition in the Telecommunications Industry.
He is also responsible for defining the Altran Next Core “5G & Advanced Networks” Portfolio in terms of tools, SW platforms/assets in three main technology streams: Network Consolidation & Modernization, SDN/NFV Introduction and Transition to 5G technologies including the ALTRAN 5G Service Platform offer framework development.
His professional experience led him to get consolidated and extensive know-how of Telecommunication systems and architecture in different technology and network domains.
He is member of the ALTRAN CTB.
Graduated with Honors in Nuclear Engineers, he started his career in 1991 in Ericsson R&D contributing to the development of the fixed broadband solution portfolio. In 1993 he was appointed as Project Leader in the European “RACE” program for next generation broadband transport solutions. Until 2008 he was responsible for the Ericsson R&D Development Unit “Broadband”, in Rome, leading activities for the development of broadband transport networks solutions with relevant contributions to standardization in ETSI and ITU-T.
In 2008 started his career in ALTRAN Italia Telecom & Media as Senior Solution Manager in the “Pre-sales and Tender Office” delivering Turn-Key projects and Managed Services for innovative data and voice services introduction in the mobile and fixed broadband networks.
Between 2014 and 2016 he was appointed Network EXcellence director with the responsibility to build and consolidate the ALTRAN Network Engineering value proposition and offer at global level.
He was member of the ITU-T SG13, SG15 and of the Laser and ElectroOptics Society (LEOS), he is author of several papers in international publications (IEEE/IEE) and conference proceedings. He has also granted international patents for broadband telecommunication systems and solutions.
